FAQs

  • What are the components of ABA therapy?

ABA therapy assists children with autism in overcoming challenges and developing new skills and abilities using data-driven, personalized steps. Home-based therapy gives the child and the family a safe place to put these steps and treatments into practice without any unnecessary distractions that could create a negative reaction.

  • What is selective eating?

The most common feeding problem displayed by children with autism is food selectivity. Selective eating can focus on type or texture and occurs when a child refuses to consume a sufficient variety of food. This could lead to inadequate nutritional intake and difficulty sustaining a healthy weight.

  • How many hours of training should I expect per week?

We have high expectations for our staff, caregivers, and clients, and that often involves 15 or more hours per week of direct care and ongoing parent training. Breakthrough Autism wants to champion your child to succeed.

  • Does ABA therapy work?

While there is no cure for autism, ABA therapy is widely recognized as the best practice for treatment for children with ASD. Our therapists use data-driven, evidence-based methods that promote behavioral change and development growth.

  • Why don’t you have client testimonials?

Of course, psychologists love to hear that they have helped a client. However, the posting of a review on-line can place a client’s right to confidentiality at risk. The American Psychological Association’s Code of Ethics states, "Psychologists do not solicit testimonials from current therapy clients/patients or other persons who because of their particular circumstances are vulnerable to undue influence.” Because Breakthrough Autism honors this adherence to confidentiality, there will be no current or former client testimonials posted on this website.

  • Is my child too young or too old for ABA therapy?

Research has shown that the earlier a child receives ABA services, the better the outcome. We see patients as young as 18 months upon early diagnosis. Early intensive behavioral intervention of 30-40 hours per week before the age of 5 has shown the greatest results. However, it is never too late to start ABA services as research has shown large improvements in individuals of all ages with autism.
